Jerry Fowler

Jerry Fowler, age 82, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on April 24, 2026. He was born in Grand Saline, TX to Clayton Huelet and Ruby Mosley Fowler on December 11, 1943.

It was his generosity and grit that set him apart. He was the man who would truly give you the shirt off his back, the man with a saying for every moment, “Oh my Lord, Yabi Dabi” when things got out of hand, “bummer” when they went sideways. He was, as his family often said, a different breed. Jerry met the love of his life, Carolyn, in November 1975 while doing plumbing at her momma’s house. By January 24, 1976, they were married, beginning a lifetime of partnership and devotion. He worked tirelessly, no matter how tired or sick he felt, and joked that he should’ve been a comedian because his family “would’ve been millionaires.” He loved classic country music and even played guitar and sang. He tended his yard with pride, despite his ongoing feud with the crawfish who refused to vacate. Above all, Jerry was proud of his family. His memory will live on in many hearts.

Left to honor his memory is his wife, Carolyn Rutledge Fowler; sons, Jerry Glynn Fowler and wife, Brenda, Michael Joseph Fowler, Terry Fowler and wife, Heather, and Hardie Fowler and wife, Shandalynn; daughters, Barbara Alice Wilson and husband, Tim, and Nicole Hand and husband, Eddie Mauer; brother, William “Andy” Fowler; sisters, Martha and Becky; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Jerry in death are his parents; son, John Wesley Fowler; brothers, Terry Fowler and Clayton Fowler Jr.; sisters, Helen, Lawanda, and Leola Mae; and his beloved dogs, Casino and Betsy.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX. Jerry’s life honoring graveside service will be on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Woodside Cemetery, Grand Saline, TX, beginning at 1:00 p.m., with Bro. Mack Swain officiating.
