Mr. Francis “Harold” Westmoreland Jr., 65, of Lumberton, went home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 21, 2022. Harold was born on Friday, April 19, 1957, in Kountze, Texas to Francis Harold Westmoreland Sr. and Lillian Peral (Courts) Westmoreland. Raised in Silsbee, Texas, Harold was known best in his school years as “Big Daddy” and proudly played football with his best friends throughout high school, graduating from Silsbee High School in 1975. After graduation, Harold began his life-long pursuit of higher education and would go on to obtain 3 separate bachelor’s degrees in Banking, Business, and Respiratory Therapy.
Harold was a well-known and outstanding member of the Silsbee and Lumberton communities during his lifetime. As a dedicated banker for 29 years, many of the founding buildings in Lumberton were financed with his assistance. In the early 1990’s, Harold was the president of the Lumberton Chamber of Commerce and is even recognized for his assistance in helping establish City Hall in Lumberton. During the last 8 years of his working career, Harold was a Respiratory Practitioner and worked at UTMB Galveston until his health encouraged him into an early retirement.
It is often said that behind every great man is a great woman, and in Harold’s life that was certainly true. Harold was married to the love of his life, Trish Westmoreland, for 36 years. Together the two conquered life’s challenges, built a family, and were the best partner in life that the other could ever ask for.
Harold was a wonderful father to his two children, Kayla and Devin. A best friend and fellow civil war reenactor with his son Devin and a devoted “PawPaw” to Kayla’s two children there was little that either of his children ever needed that he didn’t attempt to provide.
When he had spare time, Harold loved to work on woodworking projects and reenact Civil War battles- his favorite battle of course being Gettysberg. Harold and Devin were honored to have had the opportunity to participate in a reenactment of Gettysberg for the film Gettysberg and to have been included in the 150TH anniversary reenactment of Antietam.
Harold dry sense of humor, strong sense of community, and heart for his family will be deeply missed and the loss of such a man will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Trish (Blackwell) Westmoreland of Lumberton; his two children: Devin Westmoreland of Lumberton, and Kayla Westmoreland of Lumberton; his two grandchildren: Layla Bourque, and Raylan Bourque; as well as numerous friends, work colleagues, and church family members through the years.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Westmoreland Sr. and Lillian Peral (Courts) Westmoreland.
To honor Harold’s life a time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Crestwood Baptist Church of Lumberton (1150 US-69 Kountze, TX 77625) with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 PM.
