Gwendolyn Bailey Obituary

On Monday, August 17, 2020, Gwendolyn Faye Bailey, beloved Mother and Grandmother, passed away in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 65 due to pancreatic cancer. She was born in Vidor, TX to Paul Samuel Bailey and Bertha Juanita (Carter) Bailey. Gwen graduated from Vidor High School in 1973. She spent the next few years taking care of her family and raising her three daughters. In 1996, she earned an LVN certificate and went on to graduate with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Lamar University Orange in 1999. She worked in the ICU of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, TX for 10 years, before becoming a travelling nurse and working in various states throughout the country. Her travels took her to the University of Missouri, where she worked for the last 3 years.

Gwen was an adventurer and trier of new things! She loved travelling, cruises, motorcycle rides, dancing, gardening, cooking, and shopping. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and sharing stories and laughs. She taught her daughters important lessons such as sit like a lady, never lie, cheat or steal, say your prayers, don’t leave chairs in the middle of the floor, being on time is optional, driving 95 miles per hour because you are late is ok,  and if you feel the need to curse say “God Bless America” instead.

Gwen is preceded in death by her father, Paul Samuel Bailey, her mother, Bertha Juanita (Carter) Bailey, and her brothers, James Allen Bailey and Paul Lee Bailey. She is survived by her three daughters, Lela Prewitt Fish and her husband Steven of Katy, TX, Mande Prewitt Berry and her husband Jeremy of Vidor, TX, and Nicole (Nikki) Prewitt Leblanc and her husband Billie of Aurora, MO; her 7 grandchildren, Emma Porter of Parker, CO, Hayes Petersen of Orlando, FL, Mason Severson of Vidor, TX, Bobbi Leblanc of Aurora, MO, Cutter Leblanc of Aurora, MO, Addison Fish of Katy, TX,  and Toby Berry of Vidor, TX; several cousins and nieces and nephews.
