Gregory Allen Franklin Sr., age 73, of Lumberton, TX passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2023. He was born in Beaumont, Texas, on June 04, 1949, to Phillip Waldmen and Rosie Howard Franklin.
Greg was a hard working “Man’s Man” who could do anything. He was a perfectionist with a close attention to detail, which played in to one of his favorite hobbies; custom restorations on old cars. He loved old cars, and his favorite was his black ’39 Plymoth. Greg loved to talk, especially about cars, and was known for never meeting a stranger. He truly loved his friends, was very social, and if he wasn’t around other people, he was probably talking to someone on the phone. He also enjoyed playing guitar, and although most wouldn’t agree with him, in his mind he was Jimmy Hendricks himself when he played.
Through the years Greg earned many nicknames like “Skelator” or when he had the pet spider and friends started calling him “Spiderman”; but arguably his favorite earned name was given when Amelia Rose came along, and he became “PawPaw”.
Greg was a friend to talk to, a great “PawPaw”, and an awesome husband of 41 years. All those who loved him will look forward to the time when they can see him again and say “Hey Old Man”.
Left to honor his memory is his beloved wife, Robin Renee Richardson of Lumberton, TX; son, Gregory A. Franklin Jr.; daughters, Ashly Ann Scott and husband, Brad, of Rockwall, TX, and Tammy Harris of Silsbee, TX; brother, Doug Franklin and wife, Sherry; granddaughter, Amelia Rose Scott; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Phillip Brandon Franklin; and brothers, Walter Franklin and Gerald Franklin.
Greg’s life honoring graveside service will be Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
