Gordon Michael “Mike” Avery, 72, of Kountze, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020. Mike was born to Mary M. Brown Beard and Alison B. “Cotton” Avery on October 19, 1947 in Beaumont, TX; one of nine brothers and sisters, Mike grew up in home full of laughter and stories. A family man at heart, Mike truly loved his family and put them first; but none more than his beloved wife Doretha Sue Avery whom he was married to for 49 years. Mike would quickly tell you he is happy to be with her again today.
A true jack-of-all-trades, Mike could be described as a craftsman and had many proud accomplishments over the course of his life- in particular his scuba certification. A true good Christian man, Mike was kind and enjoyed sharing his happiness and talents with others; he was well known for his love of a good BBQ with the family. When not spending time with his family- especially his grandbabies- Mike also enjoyed antiques and could turn almost anything into a masterpiece. His jovial nature and kind heart will be missed by all who knew him.
Mike is survived by his father, Cotton Avery; his mother, Mary Beard; his daughter, Elizabeth Susan Jordan and husband Timothy Roy; his grandchildren, Benjamin Anthony Jordon, David Alexander Jordan and Jacob Samuel Jordon; his siblings, Larry Avery, Robert Avery, Bonnie Mitchell, Sam Boudreaux, Mary Jane Broudreaux-Stanley, David Boudreaux and Dale Boudreaux; his beloved niece Robbie Barraque and husband Carl W. III; as well as numerous additional nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mike is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doretha Sue Avery; his son, Michael Earl Avery; and his sister, Pam Mariam.
To honor Mike’s life and legacy, the family will have a time to celebrate Mike’s life from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Big Thicket Baptist Church in Kountze, TX.
