Eugene Arnold Adams

Eugene Arnold Adams, age 86, of Vidor, TX, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023. He was born on July 20, 1937, in Danville, Illinois, to Samuel Newton Adams Sr. and Gwendolyn Hall Adams.

Eugene was a wonderful man; we forgive him for his early years as a “yankee” because over the years he really did convert and become a southerner. He was a problem solver, could fix anything, there really wasn’t anything he couldn’t figure out or do. Quick witted, with a voice that carried further than he realized, and he never did learn to whisper in public. Eugene was a healthy man and kept himself that way by riding his bike and could beat anyone at a foot race no matter how old he was, and cheated death on more than one occasion. Kind, genuine, loyal, honest, with a dry sense of humor and a love for telling a story. Most of all, he loved his wife, and would have everyone know that he was the “President” of the “Sarah Adams Fan Club”.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Sarah Adams; daughters, Daphne Jean Boatwright and husband, David, of Buford, GA and Kimberly Sue Strawser of Hoopstown, IL; brothers, Kenneth Adams and wife, Jane, of Covington, ID and Donnie Adams and wife, Penny, of Hurst, CA; sisters, Linda Carter of Danville, Il, Rosemary Smith and husband, Jim, of Illinois, and Jeanette King and fiancée, John Burton; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; as well as many friends and loved ones.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Eugene Adams; daughters, Gwendolyn Lorraine Mattox and husband, John Michael Mattox, and Elizabeth Anne Bishop; brothers, Jack Adams and Sam Adams; and sisters, Alice, Betty, and Phyllis.
