Elsie Grissom Obituary

Elsie Mae Grissom, 86, of Lumberton, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026. She was born on September 4, 1939, in Galveston, TX, to Bennie Leo Linscomb and Mary Ella Andrews.

Warm and kind, she was the very definition of a true Christian and lady. She carried a softness in her spirit that made people feel safe, cherished, and understood. Her kindness wasn’t something she tried to show; it was simply who she was. If you met her once, you felt her care. For over 57 years, she walked hand in hand with her beloved husband, Billy, their hearts joined in marriage on October 23, 1960. She expressed her affection in the most heartfelt ways, marking special occasions with handmade blankets and thoughtful gifts. Every creation carried a piece of her heart. She gave to show love, and she always found a reason for giving. Elsie was quite the cook, especially her famous Chicken n’ Dumplins. And if you ever visited her home, you knew Fox News was likely burned into the television screen. She loved her family deeply, and taught her boys to love the Lord, to live with grace and compassion. She worried over them, always checking the weather, always making sure they were safe if traveling. She became the family’s “weather lady,” watching the skies for them. She gave without hesitation, loved without condition, and lived with a warmth that made the world gentler for those around her. She will be missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Billy Michael Grissom and wife, Patricia Denise, David Wayne Grissom and wife, Polly, and Steven Glenn Grissom and wife, Shelley; sisters, Linda McClain and Dianna Thibodeaux; grandchildren, Michaelyn Dené Aguirre and spouse, Melissa Aguirre, Trent Grissom and wife, Nicole, Kaylan Nicole Grissom and fiancé, Trey Beazley, Regan Glenn Grissom, Dustin Tyrel Coudrain, Collin Harris, and Avery Harris; great-grandchildren, Mila, Remi, Myka, Rafael Jr., Kyndall, Blake, Gracelynn, Adelynn, and Parker; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Elsie in death is her husband, Billy Truman Grissom; her parents, Bennie Leo and Mary Ella Linscomb; and brothers in law, Carroll “Butch” McClain and Patrick Thibodeaux.
