Edna Armstrong Obituary

Mrs. Edna Mae “Grams” (Welch) Armstrong, 85, of Lumberton, went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 8, 2022, while surrounded by her family. Edna was born on Thursday, November 12, 1936, in Beaumont, Texas to Ed W. Welch and Louise (Bird) Welch.

Edna met the love of her life, Leon, when she was just 13 years old; on a bet Leon tried to get a date with a good-looking skater and their love story began. Edna and Leon would date for 5 years and when she was 18, the two married and went on to spend the next 67 years together. Edna and Leon had two children together, Rosalind and JL, who instantly became the center of Edna’s world. To say that she was a fantastic mother would not do justice to the love and support Edna provided for her children and later their spouses and children. Always available to chat, willing to encourage and offer sage advice, Edna was truly the heart of her family. With her family in mind, Edna was always willing to tackle new adventures and she could make the best chicken fried steak and quail with rice that you’ve ever had. Edna loved life and loved to have fun while doing life; from games of dominos, 42, and canasta, to hours spent with Sudoku books in hand, Edna was always doing something. Well educated and honestly just a brilliant woman, Edna had a long career as a multi-line insurance adjuster before retiring to spend her golden years with her beloved husband. Full of compassion and yet still capable of holding her own and sharing an opinion or two, Edna was a delightful and spectacular woman who will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of more than 67 years, Leon Armstrong Sr. of Lumberton; her two children: Rosalind Green and husband Rodney of Prairieville, LA, and JL Armstrong Jr. and wife Christine of Lumberton; her grandchildren: Trevor Dane Armstrong, and Tanner Colton Armstrong and wife Kristen; her great-grandchildren: Colton Lane Armstrong and Kimber Marie Armstrong; as well as a host of friends and extended family members throughout the years.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents: Ed and Louise Welch; and her siblings: Billy Welch and wife Mae, Doris Jones and husband Roy Jack, Mary Lou Harrington and husband Gene, and John Welch and wife Helen.
