Edith Mae Shives

Edith Mae Toms Shives, age 91, of Zavalla, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022. She was born in Plainfield, NJ, on January 30, 1931, to Herbert and Marabel Mundy Toms.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jeffery Lynn Shives and wife, Melissa, Gregory Dale Shives and wife, Rebekah “Becky”; daughter, Kathleen Shives Gilliland; sister, Jean Zakaluk of Willow Street, PA; grandchildren, Kimberely Thomas and husband, Chip of Temple, TX, Kelli Moore and husband, Rick, of Rockwall, TX, Jamie Gaertner and husband, Buddy, of Driftwood, Rebecca Grove of Zavalla, TX, Christopher Shives and wife, Crystal of Zavalla, TX, Allison Anderton and husband Kyle of Tarkington, TX, Gregory Shives Jr. of Farmersville; great-grandchildren, Taylor Moore, Morgan Thomas, Peyton Moore, Jonathan Thomas, Brett Grove, Alex Grove, Carter Grove, Carson Shives, Kenzie Shives, Cooper Gaertner, Camden Gaertner, Kamryn Anderton, Karly Anderton, Jonah Shives, Kinley Anderton, and Aiden Anderton; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Edith in death is her husband of 72 years, Kerlon Shives; parents; sisters, Doris Dockery, Elsie Marie Hufstetler, and Joyce Scheller; brother, Herbert Toms Jr.; and very special nephew, Mark Zakaluk.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chip Thomas, Rick Moore, Brett Grove, Christopher Shives, Carson Shives, Kyle Anderton, Alex Grove, and Carter Grove. Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Thomas, Gregory Shives Jr., and the Joy Sunday School Class of FBC Zavalla.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Zavalla with the funeral to follow, beginning at 2:00 p.m with Rev. Stephen Forrest and Dr. Jacob Fitzgerald officiating. Edith will be laid to rest following funeral services at Zavalla Cemetery.
