Dorothy May (Treadway) Goodman

Dorothy May Treadway Goodman, age 76, of Lumberton, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025.

A lifelong resident of Loeb, Texas, Dorothy worked for many years in the Lumberton School District’s Transportation Department as a bus driver for special needs children, faithfully serving alongside her dear coworker and neighbor, Wylene Blackburn. The two could often be found after their morning route at Dairy Queen, enjoying breakfast and each other’s company. Dorothy was a longtime member of Victory Temple in Beaumont, Texas, where she and her mother attended weekly prayer meetings, later becoming a member of Faith Assembly in Lumberton.

After retiring, Dorothy devoted her time to her home and family. She was known for her abundant love and generosity—often calling to say, “I cooked a big pot of spaghetti and potato salad”, and always cooking enough to feed an army. She never quite mastered cooking for just two after raising seven children. She expressed her love in countless ways often “preferring others over herself” caring for her husband as their health declined and lending a helping hand to anyone in need.

In 2020, Dorothy was diagnosed with breast cancer, revealing her remarkable fighting spirit. She endured the grueling chemotherapy treatment nicknamed “The Red Devil” with resilience—dancing though the side effects instead of letting them keep her down. After two rounds of treatment, she proudly rang the bell, marking her victory. Throughout her journey, she could be found in the early mornings on her back porch, coffee in hand, rocking in her chair playing Monster Busters on her tablet. She brought joy to others by singing “Happy Birthday” to them on their special day, a tradition that will be dearly missed.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 56 years, C. E. “Ricky” Goodman, and their blended family of “his mine, and ours”: Karen Bateman,  Ramona Mason, James Carlos, Darlene Carlos, Greg Goodman and spouse, Amanda, and Jodi Goodman. She is also survived by her siblings, Jennifer Woosley, Keith Smith, and Karen Griffin; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, James Richard Treadway and Peggy Webstergay Holmes; brother, Floyd Alan Treadway; her infant son; and daughter, Candace Desiree Marshall.

Above all, Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend—and a true child of God who prayed faithfully for those she loved. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering love.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lumberton Family Funeral Home. Dorothy’s life honoring funeral service will be Saturday, August 23, 2025 beginning at 10:00 a.m., also at Lumberton Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Leatherwood Cemetery.
