Doris Fern Prewitt, age 71, of Vidor, TX, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025. She was born on August 12, 1954, in Beaumont, TX.
Fiercely independent and unapologetically candid, she lived her life with strength, wit, and a deep devotion to those she held dear. Doris was the kind of woman who never hesitated to speak her mind, whether you were ready to hear it or not. She was a caregiver in every sense of the word, dedicating herself to the care of her mother and father. Her loyalty to family was the cornerstone of her life. As a mother, Doris was firm but loving, raising her children with a blend of discipline and affection that left them both grounded and grateful. Though she was known to quip, “I understand why animals used to eat their young”, something honest mothers most likely have pondered. Her love extended to her cats. Doris had a soft spot for her feline companions and found joy in their company. But nothing lit up her world quite like becoming “Meemaw.” In that role, she embraced the chance to spoil her grandchildren. Doris leaves behind a legacy of strength and love. She taught us that caring deeply doesn’t mean sugarcoating the truth, and that family, whether human or furry, is worth every ounce of devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Billy McIntosh; daughter, Heather Smith; brothers, Bobby Prewitt and Cecil Prewitt; sister, Opal Aden; grandchildren, Inan Mateo, Tyler, Kassidy, and Carson; beloved niece, Tammy Carter; and a host of many other great nieces, nephews, family members, friends, and loved ones.
Preceding Doris in passing is her son, Jay McIntosh; father, Irvin Prewitt; mother, Lillie Owers; step-father, William "Mr. Bill" I. Barnett; sister, Judith; brother, Richard Prewitt and twin.
Doris's life honoring memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Lumberton Family Funeral Home.
