Richard “Dickie” Matthew Graves, 52, of Vidor, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2021. Dickie was born on December 27, 1968 in Redding, California, to Larry and Diane Graves.
Dickie was full of contagious joy that spread to all those around him. Being born premature and at only two pounds, he had a lot of challenges that would face him, but that never took away the smile on his face. He spent the first 10 years of his life in Booneville, NY, where he attended the State School for the Blind, until his family moved to southeast Texas. Dickie absolutely loved the water, even scaring his swimming instructor by staying under water for more than 3 minutes, the instructor eventually had to make him stand up, afraid he would drown if he stayed under any longer! While on their road trip down, Dickie sniffed out the Hershey factory in Pennsylvania and made sure to have his parents make a pitt stop for a necessity-chocolate. People will always remember Dickie clapping, rocking, and making his happy sound, unless someone told him no, which was his least favorite word. Those who loved him will forever be impacted by the time God gave Dickie in this world, finding comfort in knowing that he is at peace in Jesus’s presence.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Diane Mae Graves; his older brother, Patrick Graves; his aunts and uncles, Darlene Carroll, Randy and Mary Disbrow, Ronny and Nancy Graves, Phillip and Lola Graves, and David DeMontel; his cousins, Jason Carroll, Curtis Carroll, Jay Lee Carroll, Lindsey Carroll, Melissa Plentl, Karen Disbrow, and Jonathan Disbrow.
Dickie was preceded in death by his father, Larry Lyman Graves; and his grandparents.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Vidor Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, 1085 W Fwy Blvd S, Vidor, TX 77662 from 2:00pm until 2:30 pm with the funeral service to follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Dickie will be laid to rest following the funeral service at Del Rose Cemetery in Vidor.
