Derek Lee Landry, 53, of Beaumont, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021. Derek was born in Beaumont, TX to Larry and Betty (Simmons) Landry and was the younger of their two boys. It was evident from a young age that Derek was a polar opposite of his brother Jerome, loving everything Jerome hated and hating what Jerome loved. That being said, it was always clear to anyone who knew Derek that he loved his brother. A wild child and confirmed bachelor for many years, Derek devoted a lot of his time to his hobby of the moment; intently focusing to the point of mastery on whatever his mind settled on the time from collecting hot wheels and cars to bowling or enjoying his boat. In fact, Derek’s obsession with bowling back in 1995 led him to meet the woman who would forever change his life for the better, his wife, Tammie. After a long period and a few funny tales, Tammie and Derek began to date and it wasn’t long before little David was as in love with his Dad as Tammie was with the man who’d be her life partner. Tammie and Derek built a family raising their two sons in a loving home with many happy memories.
Derek was a very hard worker, putting 100% of his focus, attention, and effort into whatever he was doing; it is probably this same focus that made him such a good mechanic. When he was home with his family, Derek enjoyed cooking and made a “perfectly grilled steak” and was always ready to support his two sons in any aspect of baseball that he could. Many things in Derek’s life changed for the better when he became a husband and a father. Derek put aside many of his dislikes over the years to do things for his sons and be the best father possible; you would never have seen him at a baseball match or in a deer stand if not for those boys! A man with a tough exterior, who could tackle almost anything- Derek certainly had a big heart and a soft spot for those that meant the most to him. His legacy of life lessons, love, and hard work will not soon be forgotten.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Tammie Delacerda Landry; his sons, David Delacerda and wife Jessica, and Steven Landry and girlfriend Evelyn Baker; his brother, Jerome C. Landry and wife Pam; his grandchildren, Hunter Delacerda and Stetson Delacerda; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Derek was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Lee Landry and Betty Jean Landry.
A life honoring Memorial Service, officiated by Pastor David Millner, will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 beginning at 2:00 p.m at First Baptist Church of Bevil Oaks (7725 Sweetgum Rd. Bevil Oaks, TX 77713).
