Dawana McDougal Obituary

Dawana Lynn McDougal, 59, of Silsbee, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Sunday, May 8, 2022, in Beaumont, Texas. Dawana was born on Friday, May 11, 1962, in Silsbee, Texas to Betty Jean (Simmons) Kilcrease and Jack Kilcrease. One of four children, Dawana grew up knowing the meaning of family and how important it was to have your mother to lean on when times got hard. She took that knowledge and became the rock and matriarch of her own family when she got older. A determined woman and a hard worker, Dawana spent most of her life working as a teacher in childcare, specializing in infant care; she never could get enough of holding babies. When tragedy took her oldest son from her when he was only 18, Dawana never slowed down. Shortly there after Dawana’s husband would lose his battle with cancer and Dawana, true to form, kept going. Capable of taking whatever life threw her way, Dawana was never afraid to speak her mind and never let her struggles and sorrows show to the world. An amazing mother to her children, Dawana was a confidant, cheerleader, and friend to her children as they grew up and became parents in their own right. Prayerful and God-fearing, Dawna often drew her silent strength from the Lord, setting the example for her children and grandchildren. Unique in her own way and a bit wild too, Dawana loved life and enjoyed most when her family and friends where around her. If you could cook it in an air fryer, Dawana was going to make it and serve it to you! The world is a dimmer place without her bright smile and comforting ways, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jessica McDougal of Lumberton, and Michael McDougal and wife Elizabethan Mason of Silsbee; her grandchildren: Ethan Michael McDougal, Atticus Zane Weaver, Jesse James Want Jr., and Orion Ethan Mason; her brothers: Dennis Kilcrease and wife Susan, and Darrell Kilcrease and wife Becky; as well as numerous friends, loved ones, and extended family through the years.

Dawana is preceded in death by her husband, Eddy Lee McDougal; her son, Jonathan Lee McDougal; her parents: Betty Jean (Simmons) Kilcrease and Jack Kilcrease; and her sister, Debra Nance.
