David Arthur VonFeldt

David Arthur VonFeldt entered Heaven’s gates on September 16, 2024. David was born on August 19, 1954, in Denver, Colorado, but grew up in Texas. He graduated from Chester High School in 1972. He then entered the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Hassayampa which was part of the Blue Navy during the Vietnam War. In 1977, while stationed in San Diego, California, he met and married Kathy. The two were married for 47 years at the time of his death. 

 In the military and as a civilian, David was a mechanic. Not only did he enjoy building and fixing things, but he was also good at it. In fact, for much of their marriage, Kathy believed there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He worked on everything from cars to heavy machinery and even submarines. He took pride in his work and worked hard to provide for his family. He understood that being a good father was about more than providing. It was about showing up. He showed up by coaching baseball and softball teams, cheering on the sidelines of football games and tennis matches, and, most importantly, he tried hard to point his kids to Jesus. 

 Likely you know by now; David was a laborer. He liked to work and serve others. He enjoyed serving at his church in any way possible and looked forward to going to Preteen Camp as a chaperone every year he was able. At camp he became everyone’s “PawPaw” which was an honor he didn’t take lightly. He loved praying for and encouraging young believers as they learned more about how God was working in their lives.

 David is survived by his wife, Kathy VonFeldt of Kountze, TX, his son Shaun and his wife Amy VonFeldt of Kountze, TX, and daughter Carrie and her husband Ray Andrus, of Alvin, TX. David adored every one of his grandchildren: Kaygan VonFeldt, Bailey Stinson and husband Cody Stinson, Jonathan Andrus, Chloe Andrus, and Brady VonFeldt.

Now in Heaven, David is finally getting to hold his beloved grandson and namesake, Alex David. Additionally, David was blessed to have the most precious great granddaughter, Codi, whom he loved more than words can say. He is also survived by his two doting sisters, Judy Buchanan and Nancy Cope and their families. 

 Services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Calvary North at 395 Fletcher Rd, Lumberton, TX. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 pm with a ceremony with military honors to follow.
