David Scott Dillon, 77, of Lumberton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26th, 2026. He fought hard until the very end. David was born February 22nd, 1949, in Beaumont, Texas, to Eugene Douglas Dillon and Mary Shirley Scott.
David was one of a kind—strong-willed, stubborn, funny, and never one to go quietly. He lived a life full of stories and adventures, some told often and probably a few he took with him.
He loved hunting and fishing and had many adventures throughout his life, including elk hunting in Colorado. He loved Marble Falls, time spent at the ranch, being outdoors, gardening, and cooking for the people around him, including his daughter Sarah and her friends. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his beloved cat, Percy.
David could give you hell and make you laugh, sometimes in the very same conversation. He was fiercely independent and had a personality that was hard to forget. His circle may have grown smaller over the years, but the stories being shared by those who knew him are reminders of just how many lives crossed paths with his throughout his 77 years.
Of all the roles David had in this life, being Sarah’s dad was one of the most important. He was incredibly proud of his daughter. Their relationship could be as strong-willed as the two of them were, but through every season of life, they remained by each other’s side.
David is survived by his daughter, Sarah Hart Dillon and her significant other, Shane Dillon White; his sister, Sara Celli and her husband, Bobby; his best friends Jimmy Poe and Daniel Ellisor, a host of family, friends, and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Mary Dillon, and his beloved cat, Percy Dillon.
David fought hard, loved in his own way, and left behind a lifetime of stories that will continue to find their way home to the people who loved him.
His daughter Sarah would like to express her gratitude to the team at Gilbert’s Assisted Living in Beaumont for caring for her dad during his last days. Through his lifetime, David contributed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In leu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to them at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, October 10th, 2026, from 2:00–3:00 p.m. at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 South Main Street, Lumberton, Texas 77657. David’s life-honoring memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m.
