Darline (Powell) Walton

Darline Walton, age 72, of Lumberton, TX, passed from this life on Saturday, April 19, 2025. She was born on February 28, 1953, in Vidor, TX to Leuin Virgo and Mary Harris Powell.

A loving, gentle soul, she was known for her sweet demeanor and ability as a listener. Though reserved in many aspects of her life, her vibrant personality shone brightly to those who had the privilege to see her true self. Darline met the love of her life, Donnie, nearly 58 years ago. They went on their first date to a Lamar basketball game. As time went on, they only grew in love. Despite the distance brought by Donnie’s military deployment, their love endured, marrying on May 8, 1969, as soon as he was able to return. Their bond was one of friendship and romance, an enduring partnership rooted in mutual respect and affection. Hunting and fishing brought them closer, though Darline often preferred the peace of reading over the hunt, and she was better at fishing than Donnie. With her quirky knack for nicknaming people and things in moments of uncertainty, Darline brought humor and light into her family’s lives. Her joy was contagious, and she delighted in making her children laugh, often at her own expense. She loved to keep a beautiful yard, a testament to her commitment to fully embrace anything she undertook. Darline was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a woman of deep faith. Her love for spiritual reading reflected her Christian values, which guided her life with purpose and grace. A proud Republican, Darline loved watching Fox News and made sure others were up to date on political matters. Her legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to those she cherished will remain in the hearts of her family and friends. She leaves behind a world made brighter by her presence and an example of a life well lived.

Left to honor her memory is her best friend and husband, Donnie Walton Sr.; son, Donnie Walton Jr. and wife, Irma; daughters, Kim Moncrief and husband, Larry, and Brenda Walton; brother, Virgil Powell; sister, Shirley Powell; grandchildren, Joey Simoneaux and wife, Kaytlynn, Briana West and husband, Justin, Jake Cammack, Lacie Wiggins and husband, Colton, Seth Cammack and wife, Clarissa, Case Cammack and wife, Emily, Paul Dille, Steven Dille, and Sarah Willis and husband, Tony; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Darline in death are her parents; brother, Bruce Powell; and granddaughter, Danielle Dille.
