Daniel Baker Obituary

Daniel Ray “Boone” Baker

1932 - 2019

Daniel Baker, age 87, passed away on September 11, 2019. Daniel was born in Port Arthur, TX on March 25, 1932 to Amith Lynn Baker and Louise Snider Baker.

Daniel was a simple man, with an undeniable and memorable stubbornness layered over a giving heart that was tendered by the things and people that he treasured on this Earth. He was loud, strong-willed and determined; no one doubted that Daniel was in the room or the boss. A creature of habit, he loved to do everything at an appointed time, from sipping wine to drinking coffee. Though he loved to have a house full of people over, you knew when it was his bed time when he would holler out “Alright ya’ll, it’s time to go” or quietly slip off leaving his many family and friends to be notified of that fact by Wheel of Fortune playing on the TV. On May 17th, 1957, he married the love of his life, Alline, and she would be at his side for the next 57 years, until her death in 2014. As they began to build a life and family together, Daniel and Alline were blessed with four daughters. His pride and joy were his family, and he always put their needs before his. From his youth as a chef in the US Army in the Korean War, he was a good cook, known for his famous greens, gumbo, pinto beans, chicken strips and many other recipes. Daniel never really stopped cooking for an army, and always cooked for 10, with this coming in handy with all his grandchildren that each looked forward to a trip to “PawPaw’s” house. He loved hunting, building things, fishing, and utilizing his green thumb to grow, and promptly can, whatever he was able to fit in a jar. He was iron-willed and tough as nails when it came to his dealings but had a heart that would melt for those truly in need. As he left this world to rejoin his beloved Alline, the hearts of his family and friends ring with his distinctive “Yo!”, reassuringly in response to their statements of love and affection.  The story of Daniel Baker is told in the good name and legacy that he leaves on this Earth.

Left to honor his memory are his loving daughters, Patty Dominy, Sandra Miller and husband, Steve, Renea Taylor and husband, Sam, and Danielle Payne and husband, Brian; sisters-in-law, Murt Baker and Dolores Baker; grandchildren, Steven Miller, Amanda Cox and husband, Robert, Sarrianna Dominy and fiancé, Jacob Burns, Brandi Bertrand and husband, Dylan, Daniel Dominy and wife, Kathy, Corey Taylor and wife, Hannah, Kevin Dominy and significant other, Kaylee Mills, Cameron Smith, Taylor Smith, and Jonathan Johnson; great-grandchildren, Lailoni, Leah, Dixi, Sophia, Alezander, Kylar, Emma, Luke, Raelynn, Ryan and Lilly; best friend, Stan Clark; and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones.

Preceding Daniel in death is his beloved wife of 57 years, Alline Baker; his parents; and brothers, J.C. Baker, Jesse Baker, Junior Baker, Jerry Baker, Paul Baker and P. D. Baker.
