Corless McBryde Obituary

Corless Ann McBryde

1949 - 2019

Corless Ann McBryde, age 70, passed away on June 26, 2019. She was born in Lumberton, TX on March 20, 1949 to Thomas Jearl Peden and Mary Latino Peden.

On the first day of Spring in 1949, a beautiful life sprouted forth that would blossom for the next 70 years. Corless was beautiful inside and out, with her special, distinctive smile rarely leaving her face. She lived her life in her own distinctively special manner, with a heart that was brimming and full of life, yet harmoniously simple in its application and the way she lived it every day. Just as one would appreciate the peaceful air, sounds and beauty of a Spring morning, Corless appreciated the beauty of the small things; she lived for the joy of the moment, the beauty of the outdoors, and watching how folks would carry themselves and considered their thoughts and lives. A lover of clocks and with her own unique perspective on time, she wondered often why people were in a hurry, distracted by modern technology and moving at a fast pace, often echoing to others an honest exhortation to “slow down”. At the core of her being was her family and her faith, and these two defined the focus of her life, loving her family fiercely and instilling in her children a simple reminder that would perpetually remain in their hearts, “Get to church”.  In August of 1970, she married the love of her life, Ronald. Through the tough times and the good times their love never diminished, and no matter the circumstances, he was her “Fred”, and she was his “Hoss Fly”. The legacy of their love produced two children, five grandchildren and many fond memories of their 37 years together. There were no strangers in Corless’ life, and her unpretentious, pure nature, coupled with her lovely smile, invited all that she met to form a friendship and get to know her. God was at the forefront of her daily walk, and this started at a young age, with the faithfulness of her mother and father instilling in her a dedication to the Gospel and church. A jokester, Corless loved to have a good time: enjoying many trips with “Fred” and her family; putting together puzzles as a pastime; and joyfully playing piano and singing at church, on her piano at home and, in her last years, blessing the residents of Kountze Nursing Center on their piano. A passionate bargain shopper, Corless could spot a Dollar General from a mile away, and she seemingly made one of her life’s goals to visit every dollar store and Wal-mart that she could find, where she would buy her favorite Oak Farms Vanilla Ice Cream and fresh Watermelon. She was a proud grandmother, showering her grandchildren with love, affection and pouring her heart into each of them. Known to each special relationship by a heartfelt name that marked the modest, yet rare inner beauty of this remarkable lady, “Mom”, “Ammaw” or “Grandma”, “Carla” and “Miss Corless”, will be fondly remembered and cherished by all that knew her, as she steps into the inheritance of her faithful life, reunited with “Fred”, her father and many loved ones that welcomed Corless into the land where Spring is Eternal.

Left to honor her memory are her loving children, Ronald Edgar McBryde Jr and wife, Nicole, of Lumberton, TX and Lisa Ann McBryde Swanson and husband, George, of Kountze, TX; her mother; sister, Peggy Holman and husband, Kenneth, of New Caney, TX; brothers, Charlie Peden and wife, Penny, of Lumberton, TX, Jimmy Peden and wife, Barbara, of New Caney, TX, Robert Peden and wife, Stacy, of Lumberton, TX; grandchildren, Dana Oliver, Dylan Waugh, Madelyn McBryde, Ashley Swanson, and Colton McBryde; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Ronald Edgar McBryde, whom she lovingly referred to as “Fred”; her father; and brother, “Little” Jearl Peden.
