Clydene Garner Obituary

Clydene F. Garner

1947 - 2020

Edna Clydene “Fletcher” Garner went to join her heavenly Father on April 21, 2020.

Clydene was the first child born to the union of Hunter and Edna “Bates” Fletcher on March 17, 1947. She was followed by a brother, Scotty in 3 years and a sister, Elaine in 7 years. Clydene had a fun childhood while riding bikes and playing with all of the neighborhood children. She attended elementary school at both the old green school and Calhoun School in Crossett, Arkansas. Both places are now torn down, but filled with wonderful memories. As Clydene was getting ready to leave Norman Junior High for High School, she met Kenneth Garner. This man was the man who she wanted to spend her earthly life with. After graduation from Crossett High in May of 1965, they were married June 19, 1965 and had 49 ½ years together before Kenneth’s death in 2014. The marriage was blessed with 2 children, Kenneth Dean and Karen Deanna.

Clydene made the most important decision of her life at the age of 25 in Lone Star, Texas. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. He was always at her side and made the rough times much easier. Clydene’s dreams as a young girl had come true, she had become a wife and a mother. Now, she had a new dream to travel. She found 2 travel buddies, Ann McLean and Gwen Gill. They drove and laughed all over America plus Victoria and Nova Scotia, Canada. She was also lucky enough to travel to Ireland, Italy, China, France, and Switzerland. Her last big trip was one of the highlights of her life. She and her son traveled to Germany and had 9 days full of fun and sightseeing. Kenneth did not like to travel but enjoyed walking into Mexico. Naturally Clydene went with him. Even in her later years she enjoyed being on cruises and going to Branson, Missouri.

Another of Clydene’s great joys of her life was her 5 granddaughters. She enjoyed playing, cooking, and carrying the girls to Mountain View when they were young. As they grew up, she enjoyed hearing about their lives and how their education was going.

In 2016, Clydene’s home in Zachary, LA flooded. After the flood her life took a complete new direction as she moved to Lumberton, TX to live with her son and his family. God had a special surprise for her when she went to Crestwood Baptist Church. These people helped her over the loss of her home and during bad health days, they became a second family.

Clydene is no longer a part of this world, but oh, what a good time she had. Now she is having a good time with her Lord and family.

Clydene is survived by her son, Kenneth Dean Garner and wife Julie of Lumberton, TX; daughter, Karen Deanna Landry and husband Drew of Prarieville, LA; 5 granddaughters, Brittney Garner, Courtney Garner, Ashley Garner, Elizabeth Buhler and Katelyn Buhler; sister, Elaine Rice and husband Dennis; brother, Scotty Fletcher and wife Pat of Crossett, AR; nephew, Michael Rice; nieces, Laura Rice Hall and Teresa Fletcher Floyd.

She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Garner, and her parents Hunter and Edna Fletcher.

Clydene’s life honoring services will be privately held by her family, with Bro. Robbin Allen officiating. Burial will be at Simms Cemetery, North Crossett, Arkansas, where Clydene will be buried with her beloved Kenneth, her parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.
