Charles Stanley “Chuck” Prunty, age 70, passed away on July 31, 2020. He was born on June 21, 1950 to Charles Louis and Shirley Abbott Prunty.
Abiding in his heart was a love for people, for the quietness of nature, for the simple pleasures of life that allowed him to indulge his inherent happiness. He was kind and caring, and none knew this better than his family. Family governed the path that he followed, and his closeness to each of his loved ones remained important to him until he breathed his last. Doted on by his parents in his youth, his mom would by him just about anything he wanted, with one of his favorite gifts being Hot Rods, particularly his blue, Pontiac GTO. He was a hard-working man, starting young as a bicycle paper carrier and working, until his health waned, mostly as a Structural Fitter for various companies; he never failed to find work. Chuck found peace on the water, and fishing was a reason for him to retreat into the quietness of nature, though he really could care less if he caught anything. He went for the gentleness and comfort that it provided, representing his own internal enjoyment of simplicity and tenderness. Many knew of his incomparable pool shooting skills that had been developed from the moment his parents bought a table for their home. Few could beat him, and if they did, Chuck had either “drank too much” or his opponents had been beaten thoroughly enough by him to get better; no doubt, he may have hustled a person, or two, over the years. “Pop” loved his children and his grandchildren, and he was always extremely proud of them. Later in life, he met Ennis, his “Baby” and partner for the rest of his days. They loved each other dearly, and with her, Chuck shared his love of the outdoors, enjoying spending time together at Crystal Beach with her and family. As his body’s strength diminished, he joyfully waited for the moments to adore his two grandchildren. They, along with their parents, never parted without hearing him say, “Don’t stay gone too long, and bring my babies back.” Though “Pop” is gone, his memory and legacy will forever dwell in the hearts of all those that knew and loved him.
Left to honor his memory is his wife and companion of many years, Ennis Elliott; sons, Cody Prunty of Darlington, SC and Bris Prunty of Nederland, TX; Cari Prunty and husband, Josiah, of Wildwood, TX; brother, Jack Prunty of Lumberton, TX and Scott Prunty of Silsbee, TX; sister, Shawn Vincent of Beaumont, TX; brother-in-law and longtime dear friend, Jay Fershau; grandchildren, Abby Jo Carrell and Cooper Carrell; and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones.
Preceding Chuck in death are his parents and sister, Connie Fershau.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, LLC., 766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX 77657. Pisgah Cemetery, Woodville, TX, for his burial, where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved mother.
