Charles “Charley” Norman Mitchell was born on July 30th, 1942, in Port Arthur, Texas, and passed into Glory at the age of 82, on Sunday, November 17, 2024. He was born to George Gilbert Mitchell Sr. and Olive Lanie Hawthorne Mitchell, the youngest of 4, the baby of the family.
Charley was rarely found sitting still, from a very young age he was always a hard worker. Jobs ranging from sweeping floorboards at his father’s garage, Mitchell Auto Supply, to being an instrument technician at the Chevron refinery. After an early retirement, he and Betty then took a job Hot Shot trucking across America. No matter how hard of a day he had, he prided himself in providing for his family. His hobbies included hunting and processing his own meat, working in the garden that he and Betty grew, and caring for any animal he possibly could. Charley truly enjoyed pouring himself into his hobbies and work, but above all, he loved his Lord and cared for his family. He will be greatly missed by many that had the honor to know him.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty Long Mitchell; son, Charles “Charlie” Mitchell Jr. and wife, Carol Carlson Mitchell; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Mitchell Walsh and husband, Shawn Walsh; grandchildren, Emily Mitchell Goines and husband, Garrett Goines, Charles “Trey” Mitchel III, Lanie Walsh, and Libby Walsh; great-grandchildren, Mitchell Lane Goines and Jaxon Ray Goines.
Preceding Charley in death are his parents; and older siblings, George Gilbert Mitchell Jr., William Roger Mitchell Sr., and Carolyn June “Ter” Mitchell Belk.
