1963 - 2019

Charles Dwight Scarborough, age 55, passed away on January 22, 2019. He was born in San Augustine, TX on April 25, 1963 to Avery Scarborough and Mildred Smith Scarborough.

An honorable and selfless man, Charlie believed in putting what was most important in his life first: family, honor and integrity. He lived for others, putting their needs above his own. Till the very end, no matter what was happening, or how bad he felt, his priority was to care and provide for his children and his “Baby Girl”, Kriste. Charles and Kriste were best friends; every morning with a text message, she was reminded of how much Charlie loved her. From the moment they first met, she knew he was a great guy, and even her dad quickly gave his approval; they married on February 19, 1994. Charlie was easy to love; no matter where he went and everywhere that he worked, it was hard to find someone that did not like him. He was an all-around dad; starting from the time he fell in love with Jordahn during he and Kriste’s second date, as Jordahn came over to him and placed his hand on his shoulder, Charlie fell in love with being a dad. Always encouraging his boys and looking for the good within them, he supported them in everything they did: bragging to whoever was around about Jordahn’s service in the Marine Corps, cheering for and encouraging them at baseball games and giving advice about how to live their lives and conduct themselves the way he did. He believed the greatest gift that he could give them was his name, along with the honorable, integrity driven character that he lived by. He was a funny man with a sarcastic, dry sense of humor, driven even more by his intelligence and knowledge of even the most random of topics. Before his sons, Derek and Jake, were born, many family trips were taken to Astroworld, the beach and the lake, with Jordahn and their nephew, Justin. As children often do, when asked “How far?” they were from their destination, Charlie would jokingly respond “About 5 minutes!”. A “simple man”, Charlie made you feel good about yourself and built your confidence up. Even though he was afraid of flying, one of his proudest moments was flying to pin Jordahn upon his promotion to sergeant. “Papa Scarborough”, he was proud of being a grandfather, and his three grandbabies were on the other end of many Facetime conversations. Just as his name, Charlie’s legacy of living his life for those he loved will remain. Though he is gone for now, he will be missed, and Kriste and his boys will see him again someday; it may take time, but if he were here to ask, he would tell them not to worry and it will be “About 5 minutes!”.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 24 years, Kriste Scarborough; sons, Jordahn Scarborough and wife, Jaclyn, of Quantico, VA, Derek Scarborough of Lumberton, TX and Jake Scarborough of Lumberton, TX; grandchildren, Jaye Scarborough, Tyler Scarborough and Avery Scarborough; mother, Mildred Smith Scarborough; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rusty and Maudine White of Port Arthur, TX; sisters-in-law, Keri Rippy and husband, Todd, of Port Neches, TX and Deana Blackmon and husband, Billy, of Orangefield, TX; and nephews, Justin Rippy, Blake Rippy, Forrest Blackmon and Logan Blackmon.

Charles is preceded in death by his father.

Visitation with family and friends will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX. Charles’ life honoring service will follow at 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home, with Bro. Jim Salles officiating.
