Carl Ray Barthol

Carl Ray Barthol, age 87, of Jasper, TX, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. He was born on August 31, 1938, in Jasper, TX to Harvey and Lula Busby Barthol.

Born with a steadfast spirit, Carl was a good man and a faithful Christian. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, always putting their needs above his own. To his children, he was not only a father but the very best daddy, guiding them with wisdom, patience, and a firm hand that always pointed them toward the right way. To his grandchildren, he was a proud “Paw paw”. Carl was happiest outdoors, tending to his garden and enjoying the beauty of Creation. Skilled with his hands, he was a talented carpenter and mechanic, able to build, repair, and create with precision and care. His sons often turned to him as their go-to man, knowing he would always offer sound advice and practical help. Faith was the cornerstone of Carl’s life. He read his Bible faithfully and lifted his voice in song at church, often alongside his beloved wife, Ema. Together, they shared their gift of music not only with their congregation but also with listeners of the local gospel radio station. Carl and Ema’s love story began in their youth, and on August 18, 1958, they were married. Their union was blessed with decades of devotion until Ema’s passing in 2015. His life was a testimony of faith and character. Though he has gone to be with the Lord, his memory will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Carl Daniel Barthol and wife, Lisa Diane, and Michael Ray Barthol; daughter, Carol Barthol Russell and husband, Randy; sister, Reba Lois Rawls and husband, Billy; grandchildren, Spencer Russell and wife, Kim, Alexandria Williams and husband, Coty, Joshua Daniel Barthol and wife, Hannah, Steven Barthol, Cynthia Barthol, and Christie Barthol; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Carl in death are his parents; wife, Ema Jean Barthol; brother, Harvey Isaac Barthol Jr.; sisters, Purvey, Florence, and Joyce; and grandson, David Barthol.

Graveside services will be Monday, December 8, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, TX.
