Bruce James Whisneant

Bruce James Whisneant, age 75 of Vidor, TX, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was born in Fred, TX, on October 6, 1947, to Arthur James and Maxine Hooks Whisneant.

He was tough, accepting life as it came and focusing his heart on the things and people that he cherished. Bruce was straight and to the point, and if he cared for you, it was genuine and unmatched. He worked as a career truck driver, operating under the CB handle “Running Late”. It was at work one day that he stopped at a local hamburger stand and was awestruck by a young woman. She was barefoot, with pigtails and overalls on, and “Running Late” was in love. This young lady, Sue, would become his “Sugar”, wife, and the mother of his two sons. He had just stopped for a bite to eat and ended up falling in love. Bruce loved company, enjoying most the moments with his family, especially when he became a grandfather. He was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, finding peace in the embrace of the Lord’s creation. Though he is gone, “Running Late” made it to other side, reunited with his beloved Sue. He will be forever missed.

Left to honor his memory are his sons, Jamie Whisneant and Abby Ricks, of Orange, TX, and Bradley Whisneant and wife, Kaylee, of Vidor, TX; brother, Jimmy Whisneant and wife, Velena, of Silsbee, TX; grandchildren, Gage Whisneant, and Remi Whisneant; bonus grandchildren, Waylon Ricks, and Autumn Meyers; best friends, Shelby Camp, Curly Romero, Justin Jinks, and Trevor Jinks; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Whisneant; and his parents. 

Visitation will be Friday, June 2, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. t0 7:00 p.m. at Lumberton Family Funeral Home. Bruce’s life-honoring funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Lumberton Family Funeral Home with interment to follow at Franks Branch Cemetery.
