Brenda (Dunkin) Tanton

Brenda Sue Tanton, age 59, of Evadale, TX, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. She was born on February 12, 1966, in Selma, AL to Marvin Junior Dunkin and Effie Carter Dunkin. 

The road stretched wide before her, the horizon always calling, but no journey was as profound as the one she took through life. Brenda was a force to be reckoned with: wise beyond measure, fiercely protective, and unapologetically herself. She was a woman who thought outside the box, saw beyond the ordinary, and lived with an unwavering sense of purpose. From the moment Brenda met her beloved husband, Mark, they were a team in every sense of the word. Both truck drivers, they spent years traversing the highways of this great country, side by side as “Einstein” and “Spider Monkey”, their CB handles ringing across the radio waves. Their bond was one built on trust, adventure, and an unbreakable love that endured every mile. Brenda had a heart as big as the open road. If she had it to give, she would. She never shied away from speaking her mind, fighting for what she believed in, or ensuring the ones she loved were always protected. A sharp thinker, she had a knack for solving problems, and when she was right, which was often, she never hesitated to remind others with her signature phrase: “I told you.” She was not only intelligent, but incredibly skilled, whether it was whipping up an unforgettable meal, outdriving Mark on the road, or crafting something beautiful with her own hands as a self-taught carpenter. There was no challenge Brenda couldn’t tackle, no problem she couldn’t solve, and no loved one she wouldn’t stand by. Brenda’s spirit, bold, loving, and full of life, will continue to travel on, carried forward by the memories she created and the people she cherished. Her journey does not end here; it simply takes another road, one where the horizon is endless and the skies are forever open.

Left to honor her memory is her beloved husband, Mark Tanton; son, Robert Storm and wife, Macy Blackwell; daughter, Katracey Thomas and husband, John “J.T.” ; brother, Roy Wayne Dunkin; sister, Tammy Dunkin; grandchildren, Jacey Thomas, Johnny Thomas, Jocelyn Thomas, and one on the way; furry children, Coonie, Cricket, Buddha, Bullet, Rowdy, Dixie, Bull, Max, and Texanna the horse; as well as a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Brenda in death are her parents; father in law, Rufus “Buddy” Tanton; and canine friends, Yogi, Christmas, Ginger, and Mickey.
