Betty Landry Obituary

  Betty Jean Landry

Betty Jean Landry, age 79, passed away on January 23, 2019. She was born on September 14, 1939 to Mary Alif and Elbert “Shine” Simmons, in Burkville, TX.

Stranger was a word that did not exist in Betty’s vocabulary. She was a social butterfly who found pure joy in learning about the lives of others and her interest was genuine, often winning her a friend for life.  “In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.” Betty never stopped learning because she never stopped teaching, it was who she was. Betty’s children remember her lessons on etiquette well, and she never minded voicing corrections if you had lost sight of that etiquette. She was not only a teacher but was also a phenomenal achiever herself. Betty earned her master’s degree in education and taught in Beaumont ISD and Vidor ISD during her 29 year career. She also attained the nickname “Betty Crocker” from her family for her amazing and delicious culinary gift. She enjoyed decorating her home, especially for Christmas. Her desire was not just for the holiday season to be apparent but instead, she celebrated every moment that she could be with her family. She was truly a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed greatly.

Betty is Survived by her sons, Jerome Clark Landry and wife, Pam, Derek Lee Landry and wife, Tammie; grandsons Justin Landry and wife, Taylor, David Delacerda and wife, Jessica; Steven Landry, and Jacob Noack; great-grandchildren, Taylon, Taevri, Tessa, Hunter, and Stetson; sister, Carolyn Patterson and husband, Mike; brother-in-law, Ted Landry and wife, Theresa; sister-in-law, Billie Simmons, and 2 nieces, 6 nephews, 4 great nieces, and 5 great nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Lee Landry; mother, Alif Cotton; brother, Marvin Dean Simmons; niece, Alyssa Holtzclaw; and great-nephew, Tucker Holtzclaw.
