Bernis Loyd Jordan of Lumberton made the journey to Heaven on October 6, 2022. A lifelong Texan and native of Honey Island, Bernis was born on September 21, 1934, and raised by Tom and Irene Duce.
Bernis was a devout Christian who was an active church member and deacon. He served within multiple churches, including Magnolia Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Segno, Central Baptist Church of Livingston, and Crestwood Baptist Church of Lumberton. He graduated from Big Sandy High School and built a successful career in procurement within the timber industry. An abiding love of music accompanied Bernis throughout his life, and he fostered this love within his family. He enjoyed nothing better than an afternoon spent with a guitar, singing hymns and country favorites around a piano. He could also make a motor run when no one else could and was the first person on call to help construct a one-of-a-kind fireplace mantle, renovate a deck, or run electricity to a building. He was a builder who was always planning his next project, whether it was a new house, a rose garden, or a sunroom.
Left to honor his memory is his wife, Charline Shankles Jordan; children L. Keith Jordan and Debra, Charlene Wheeler and Arthur, Danny Arena and Laura, Kellene Burnaman and Mario, and Kenneth Arena; grandchildren Michael Scott Blakley and Farrah, Jessica Jordan Richardson and William, Adam Burnaman and Michelle, Candice Radford and Allen, Brandon Burnaman, Pate Arena and Morgan, and Nolan Arena and Rachael; great-grandchildren Alexis Marion Blakley, Aiden Joseph Richardson, Evan Burnaman, Zoe Burnaman, Logan Radford, Landen Radford, and Caylee Radford.
Preceding Bernis in death is his first wife, Mattie Marie Jordan, sister Pauline Fields and Charles, and sister Willa B. Hinson and R. Z.
