Barbara Ann Boles

Barbara Ann Boles, 83, of Buna, TX, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026. She was born January 29, 1943, in Shreveport, LA, to Katherine McEachern Smith and Benjamin Reese Smith.

A devoted mother and steadfast woman of faith, her life was defined by love, steady and unwavering, and she poured that love into her sons, whom she raised with a firm but gentle hand. Barbara’s advice was wise and guiding, even if its meaning was not apparent right away. Her sons grew into the men they are because of her. To her grandchildren, she was “Gran”. She delighted in helping care for them, offering warmth and patience. Family holidays were her favorite time of year, because it meant the whole family being together. Nobody could make fried chicken like her, no matter how hard they tried. Barbara was a good momma, a loyal friend, and a Christian whose faith guided her through every season of life. She lived with humility, kindness, and a heart that always had room for one more person to love. She leaves behind a family who will forever feel her absence, yet carry her lessons, her strength, and her love forward. Her legacy lives on, and her soul rests, held in the arms of the Lord she trusted so faithfully.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, John David Johnston.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Johnston, Jimmy Johnston and wife Kim; Sisters, Pat Rae and husband Clarence, Kaye Henson and husband “PeeWee”; Grandchildren, Benjamin David Johnston and fiancée Jordan, Jessica Parker and husband Brandon, Joshua Haygood and wife Tori, Matthew Haygood and wife Jena, Ashley Johnston, Rachael Wells and husband Adam; As well as 21 great-grandchildren.

Barbara's life honoring memorial service will be on Saturday, April 25, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S Main St. Lumberton, TX 77657.
