Alvin Courts Obituary

Alvin Claude Courts, age 91, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. He was born on June 19, 1933, in Beaumont, TX to Coy and Leona Smith Courts.

Alvin lived a life of quiet strength and unwavering devotion. A man of simple pleasures, he found contentment in a cold beer, a football game, and the great outdoors, where he felt most at home. Tough and hardworking, he embodied resilience and dedication, never one to complain about his own circumstances, always seeking ways to lend a helping hand. His love for his wife, Shirley, was deep and enduring. From the moment they met at the Jefferson Theater in the 50s, their journey together was one of steadfast companionship and profound love. Until her passing, they walked side by side through life's joys and challenges, building a life filled with shared laughter, hard work, and mutual respect. Alvin was a proud father and grandfather, a role he cherished with all his heart. As a veteran, he honorably served his country both in active duty and as a reservist during the height of the Cold War. His skills as a U.S. Army cook extended beyond the military; at home, he prepared hearty, military-style meals for his family, a tradition that became a meaningful part of their lives. A devoted Christian and longtime member of Woodcrest Methodist Church in Lumberton, Alvin found refuge in his faith, drawing strength from his devotion to the Lord. In his later years, he became a passionate reader, devouring more books than most would in a lifetime. The Lumberton Public Library became a second home to him, a place where he was a constant presence. He will be remembered for his his humor, his generosity, and his unwavering loyalty. Alvin Courts was, in every sense, a man's man; strong, dependable, and full of heart. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. His story will remain etched in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.

Left to honor his memory are his sons, James Courts, Josh Courts and wife, Lori, and Jeff Courts and wife, Krista; daughters, Kimberlee Ferriera and Vicki Drumm; brothers, Calvin Courts of FL and Malvin Courts of San Antonio, TX; sister, Marion Blackmon of GA; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.
