Rex Walker Obituary

Mr. Rex Rodney Owen Walker of Kountze, Texas, passed away April 26, 2018 at the age of 76.

Rex Rodney Owen was born September 10, 1942, in Durant, Mississippi, to Hade Owen and Edna Boren. A year later Edna passed away following the birth of Rex's sister, Linnie Franklin Owen. The two were adopted by their maternal aunt and husband, Johnnie James Walker and Ella Owen of Beaumont, Texas. Wanting the children to maintain their family name, they added the last name Walker. Thus, Rex Rodney Owen Walker.

Rex graduated from French High School in 1959. Straight out of high school at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was discharged in May 1963.

When Rex first met his wife he was working for T.J. Hanson Imports. A job change came a year later and he worked for Prudential Life Insurance for a year. Following that he hired directly into Mobil Oil Refinery processing as a Central Control Room Operator. Eventually he was promoted to Supervisor. Retirement came in January 1996.

Grandchildren softened the heart of introvert Rex walker. He became a proud Papa as named by granddaughter Holly. Everyone found him to be so smart that he was nicknamed "The Professor." His passion was reading, building and playing on computers, and genealogy. Rex as a great husband helping with anything and everything. Even dishes.

Even though he didn't get to attend very often due to illness, Rex considered Christian Fellowship Worship Center as his home for the last four years.

Rex married Kelly Bunn of Orange, Texas, on January 10, 1966, at the First United Methodist Church and she survives him. They had two sons, Geoffrey Todd Walker of Missouri City, Texas, and Clayton Drew Walker and wife Diane Lee of Lumberton, Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Allie Walker of Lumberton, Texas, Tadd Walker of Lumberton, Texas, Holly Walker of Lumberton, Texas, Zachary Walker of Chicago, Illinois, Scott Walker of Lumberton, Texas, and Owen Walker of Lumberton, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Arianna Fowler and Benjamin Beam, both of Lumberton, Texas; and his sister, Linnie Owen Smith of Beaumont, Texas.
