Patricia Girouard Obituary

 Patsy Girouard

1947 - 2020

Patricia Louise (Lopez) Girouard, age 72, passed away on January 10, 2020. Patsy was born on December 2, 1947 to Edmond and Lena Fruge Lopez.

Honest and hardworking, Patsy accepted people for who they were. She was kind, investing in her loved ones and selflessly devoting herself to their needs and care. Through the hills and valleys of life, she fought for their wellbeing and future. While working for Greyhound in Port Arthur in 1976, she met a young bus driver and fellow employee, Nickey. They went on one date at the time, where Nickey beheld her skill and passion for dancing. Patsy was a great dancer, and if paired with a good partner, folks would stop to watch them on the dance floor. She and Nickey would not be in each other’s lives again until 1994, but it was then they realized they were soulmates and, after marrying on January 27, 1995, spent the next 24 years totally in love. He truly made her happy until her very last breath on this Earth, though just as in a good dance, she had to keep him straight at times. Her selfless character manifested unhindered when she raised Nickey’s children as her own, loving them without restraint or condition. “MawMaw’ never treated any grandchildren she had differently, making each of them feel as if they were her favorite. Her nature was straightlaced and detailed, but she enjoyed a trivial vice or two. At times, no one will say when, she could be found operating under the name “Patty”, supporting questionably legal local gambling establishments playing the slots. Slot machines were one of her pastimes, and she enjoyed playing throughout the years. Patsy loved her wine, particularly White Zinfindel in a box, not caring one bit that it was not bottled. She was a special lady, and her passion for life and fullness of love will forever be cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.

Left to honor her memory is her husband of 24 years, Nickey Girouard; son, Brian Girouard; daughters, Tammy Dickerson and husband, Donald, Angel Girouard, Tammy Lynn Nick, and Teffiney Rich and husband, Cody; brothers, Scott Lopez and wife, Vanessa; sisters, Shirleen Vincent and husband, Voorhies, Kathy Hulin and husband, Ricky; stepbrother, Carl Wayne Gary and husband, Tom; step-sisters, Debra Hatton and Karen Fisher and husband, Joe; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; longtime friends, Roland and Joy Boudreaux; and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones.

Patsy is preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Chute Landry; stepmother, Louella Lopez; son, Kevin Girouard; brother, Edmond Lopez Jr.; and stepbrothers, Darryll Gary and Greg Gary.
