Patricia Ann Criddell
1942 - 2019
Patricia Ann Criddell, age 76, passed from this life on Saturday, March 30, 2019. She was born on August 7, 1942 to Oladge Collins and Ola Murphy Collins in Big Sandy, TX.
Strong and loving, she lived her life fully and loved to laugh, joke and enjoy life. Patricia would find ways to give and provide for others, even if she lacked the means. A passionate and unwavering Christian, she was devoted to her faith; Patricia loved the Lord and was always faithful to church. Teaching her children to know the Lord and praying for them, she reminded her loved ones often, day and night at times, that she was “praying for you”. If Patricia felt led to pray for you, it didn’t matter who you were or where she was, she would pray. She could be as stubborn as the day is long, but if God told her to do something, she was going do it. This was never truer than when God sent her husband, Roy, to her, while she served as a youth minister at The Church of God in Kountze, TX. At first Patricia was not sure if she liked him, but God spoke to her heart, saying “You do not reject what I send you.” Marrying after six months courting, they would spend five fond years together and produced their two children, Clint and Melanie. After only 5 years of marriage, Roy tragically passed away from a brain tumor; Patricia never complained about losing him and having to raise the children alone, trusting in God’s leadership. She never remarried, knowing that God brought she and Roy together, and if He wanted her to have someone else then He would provide. Known as “Nana” to her grandchildren, she was steadfastly dedicated and lovingly committed to her church and family. Throughout her life, she ensured that her family knew how much she loved them. Even towards the end, though she could not remember names at times, she never stopped expressing her unconditional, selfless love to the family she loved so much. Patricia’s simple faith and unshakeable character will be missed by those she loved.
Left to honor her memory is her daughter, Melanie Criddell of Lumberton, TX; son, Clint Criddell of Lumberton, TX; sisters, Lois Hemby of Nederland, TX; brother, O.L. Collins and wife, Jimmy Lee, of Silsbee, TX; grandchildren, James Smith and wife, Sonnie, of Silsbee, TX, Travis Criddell of Lumberton, TX and Devin Criddell of Lumberton, TX; great-grandchild, Ronan Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Clinton Criddell Sr.; parents; sisters, Opal Gibson, Flois “Nub” McCormick and Hazel Hooks.
