Norma Jean Van Pelt
1933 - 2019
Norma Jean Van Pelt, age 86, passed away on September 20, 2019. She was born in Orange, TX on August 24, 1933 to Eugene and Grace Ingram Van Pelt.
Truly a big sister to many, Norma possessed an aged spirit that was nurturing and unwavering for any in need. However old she may have seemed throughout life, even in her younger years, her mischievous and playful attitude allowed her to connect easily with children. Norma rarely met a stranger, and in her invitation for a good, warm hug, she often would sneak in a kiss. If you were a stranger, by the time you finished an initial conversation, she would know all there was to know about you, and depending on how much time you had, you would know her with the same intimacy. She was perceptive, caring, and good at seeing the things and needs that the busyness of life would often mask for others: she had a deeper way of looking at people. As a civil servant in the US Navy, Norma’s longtime career saw her serve the vital role of inventorying all the ships that were docked or being retired from service. “The Lord will take care of it”, Norma’s response to many of life’s ups and downs, was a representation of the centrality of her faith; known for her dedication and loyalty to her church family, as a long-time member of The Anchor Church of Beaumont, she made herself available to serve in any capacity that was available, even serving a role in the National Quizzing Program in the UPC and coaching a team to the Nationals. Norma was one-of-a-kind, and she left her impact on all those around her, entering Heaven and meeting the One she spent her life praising. She will be missed by all those she cared for so deeply and truly.
Left to honor her memory is her loving sister, Carolyn Van Pelt of Mauriceville, TX; brothers, Jerry Van Pelt and wife, Eunice, of Deer Park, TX and James Van Pelt and wife, Sandra, of Mauriceville, TX; 10 nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones.
Preceding Norma in death are her parents; sisters, Wanda Cormier and Patricia Morgan; and brothers, Billy Ray Van Pelt and David Van Pelt.
Visitation with family and friends will be 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2019 at The Anchor of Beaumont, 6655 TX-105, Beaumont, TX. Norma’s life honoring service will begin at 10:00 a.m., also at the church, with Pastor Johnathan Green officiating and burial to follow at Magnolia Springs Cemetery, FM 1005, Kirbyville, TX.
