Ronald “Mike” Murray

1943 – 2018

Ronald Nolan “Mike” Murray, age 75, of Beaumont, TX, passed away on November 6, 2018. He was born to George Roy Murray and Doris Garrison Murray on January 4, 1943 in Port Arthur, TX.

A strong-willed, passionate man, Mike was always tough and driven. No one doubted that Mike was his own man, his friends and family knew that he loved big but was tough to love. When he was not working as an electrician, most of Mike’s life was devoted to his passion for racing. From drag-racing to boat racing, and later dirt track racing, Mike just liked to go fast. Traveling for years with his close friends, Carl, Duane and Fred, his #12 “Underdog” car brought him many places and many victories. Whether it was his racing career or using his deep voice, Mike loved to get people’s attention, but with that big voice came a big heart. He would go above and beyond for those that he loved. Mike loved his family, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed taking them to his family farm in Big Sandy to hunt, fish and ride 4-wheelers. Later in life, he met his wife Nida, and they married on Valentine’s Day, spending the rest of his life together. Even though his life’s race is over, Mike’s memory will always have a place in the heart of his family and friends.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 11 years, Leonila “Nida” Murray; daughters, Dina Bennett and husband, Steve, of Lumberton, TX and Cheryl Nichols of Atascocita; step-daughter, Alma Davis Vasques, and husband, Angel, of Pell City, AL; sister, Sherry Breedlove of Big Sandy, TX; and grandchildren, Richard Nichols, Chase McDonald, Baylee Bennett, Isabella Vasques and Asher Vasques.

Preceding Mike in death were his parents.

Visitation with family and friends will be 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday, October 12, 2018, at Lumberton Family Funeral Home at 766 S. Main St. Lumberton, TX. Mike’s life honoring service will follow at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home, with Bro. Joel Nabors officiating.
