McCoy Turner Obituary

McCoy D. Turner

1933 - 2019

McCoy Delano Turner, age 86, passed away on June 7, 2019. He was born in Oakdale, LA on March 13, 1933 to George Dewey Turner Sr. and Gussie Viola Laird Turner Foyil.

A man of character and astounding knowledge, McCoy was a unique man. At a young age he prayed for the revelation to "work on things", and the fruit of his prayers were apparent. He possessed an innate gift for all things mechanical, from bulldozers to cars and airplanes, no vehicle was a match for his intellect. He had an extensive knowledge of many makes and models of cars, it was a lifelong passion that proved useful in many various ways. He retired from Brown and Root plant construction as a millwright and mechanic. In his earlier years he worked as a mechanic for numerous automobile dealerships in Central Louisiana and at one time ran his own mechanic business, rebuilding many transmissions and performing body repair. He never met a stranger and was genuinely honest and personable with every one he came into contact with. While he was a very hard worker, he was also a professional prankster and could cut up with the best of them when he wasn't fixing something. Reading was more than just a hobby to McCoy, he enjoyed reading Zane Grey and Louis L’amour’s westerns. He read until he couldn't see anymore due to cataracts, after surgery he exclaimed, "My goodness, I can see everything!" Throughout his childhood and teenage years he attended church at Oakdale UPC. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, and grandfather, his life was a testament of his faith and his family rejoices to know that he has received the ultimate reward.

Left to honor his memory are his sons, George A. Turner and wife, Donna, of Vidor, TX and Frank L. Turner and Rachel, of LaPorte, TX; brother, George Dewey Turner of Oakdale, LA; grandchildren, Jennifer (Turner) Vaughn, Shelby Turner, Kimberly (Noack) Hawk, Christopher Chenault, Bridget Turner, Brooke (Turner) Buchanan and Serenity Turner; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

McCoy is preceded in death by his loving wife, Madeline (Stanley) Turner; his parents, George Dewey Turner Sr. and Gussie Viola Laird Turner Foyil ; stepfather, Everett Foyil; daughter, Sharon Rose (Turner) Chenault; son-in-law, Clayton Chenault; granddaughter, Kasi JoLynn Chenault; brother, Troy G.
