Margaret Ruth Munden

Margaret Ruth Munden, age 90, passed away on February 25, 2019. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI on October 1, 1928 to Ralph Leroy Peters and Pauline Matilda Buechert Peters.

She was a traditionalist; a loyal person, Margaret liked things a certain way and was very sentimental about many things. From July 28, 1950 to January 31st, 2016, she shared 65 and a half years with the love of her life, Dr. Howard E. Munden. They spent many years together working in his chiropractic practice in Silsbee; loving to make things for people and do special things, she would keep up with their patient’s birthdays and take cookies, brownies and sweets to folks often. Every day, almost twice a day most days, you could find “Miss Margaret” at the Lumberton Waffle House, with her husband; to say that Margaret was a fan of the Waffle House would be a bit of an understatement. Many times, before she sat down, the staff would have her order ready for her: Once in a blue moon, she would order an omelet, but her everyday nourishment was toast, eggs over-easy, heart shaped hash-browns and coffee. For 18 years, from the time Dr. Munden experienced a life altering stroke until his death, she provided him with loving and devoted care. An artistic person, she loved to paint, do macramé and ceramics. Travelling often with her family, they would visit her hometown of Petoskey, Michigan, made memories on an Alaskan Cruise and even traveled to Israel. Margaret was passionate about sports, and she was an avid football, basketball and baseball fan. Margaret leaves behind many warm, loving memories for her loved ones to cherish, as well as an empty seat at the Waffle House that she would encourage you to swing by and enjoy her favorite meal.

Left to honor her memory is her son, Rickie Munden of Bevil Oaks, TX; daughters, Diana Ingram and husband, Larry, of Covington, GA, Margaret Herrera and husband, Dean Soileau, of Lumberton, TX and Sally Munden of Pasco, WA; grandchildren, Shelli Gutierrez and husband, Roberto, Kevin Lewis and wife, Ashley, Olivia Herrera, Regis Herrera and wife, Kim, Holly Devary and husband, Brooks, Sara Roberts, Phillip Cole and wife, Jackie, Amy Bivins and husband, Brian, Allison Cole and Nathan Cole; great-grandchildren, Robbie, Bella, Kit, Poppy Ruth, Damien, Robert, Daisy, Joey, Hannah, Grace, Samuel, Joseph, Hunter, Hope, Joy, Kaylie, Ethan, Mikayla, Abygail and Josiah.

Margaret is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Howard E. Munden; her siblings; and great-granddaughter, Aleigha Gutierrez.

Visitation with family and friends will be 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019, at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main St. Lumberton, TX. Margaret’s life honoring service will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019, also at the funeral home, with son in law, Larry Ingram, and Bro. Alton Harwell officiating.
