Judy Richard Obituary

Judy Gail Richard

1951 - 2019

Judy Gail Richard, age 68, passed away on October 14, 2019. She was born in Beaumont, TX on May 29, 1951 to Walter Ralph Jr. and Earline Marie Gross Richard.

Diligent and responsibly dedicated, Judy was a servant at heart, tirelessly finding ways to help those in need; by her example, her children were taught to possess that same care for others.  She was never one to give up, or let life go by, always making sure that she made provision for herself and loved ones. If she had any money at all, she would find a way to give. Ever teaching her children, from Judy they learned many things: to stand for what they believed in; how to work hard and provide for their families, without having to rely on unwarranted assistance; and to seek a relationship with the Lord, always. During their formative years, she was the cool mom, and she formed cherished relationships with their friends. Outgoing and quite the firecracker, Judy was the life of the party. Her Cajun heritage meant that family was important, getting the family together often for Crawfish Boils and other collective functions. Her personal hygiene was impeccable, those habits serving her well once she obtained a license as a beautician and hairdresser. Utilizing her self-sufficient and hardworking nature, she spent her days going to beauty school and her nights working in Gary’s Coffee Shop in Vidor. Faith was important to her, and she possessed an insatiable curiosity of the Gospel. She studied the religion of others, not for herself, but to satisfy her need to show a deep care and respect for others. She really enjoyed taking care of others, and as a restauranteur, caregiver for the elderly, and beautician, her career choices reflected that. Her innate beauty, both within and without, shined brightly during her time on Earth. “Judy Gail”, “JuJu” or “NaNa”, however she was known by her loved ones, made a mark on the hearts of those that met her that will forever be cherished.

Left to honor her memory is her daughter, Melanie Bourne and husband, Tres, of Lumberton, TX; son, Chris Van Mahana and wife, Vickie Lynn, of Deseret, UT; brother, Jerry Earl Richard and wife, Margaret, of Malvern, AR; grandchildren, Brittany Van Winkle, Sean Mahana, Dallas Mahana, Lance Ivey and Hailey Bourne; great-grandchild, Charlie Amrine; and numerous extended family and friends.

Preceding Judy in death are her parents; son, Troy Mitchell A. Mahana; brothers, Danny Lee Richard and Brady Lane Richard; and beloved uncle and aunt, Mitchell and Edna “Hannie” Cappadona.
