Jill Evelyn (Sockwell) Douglas

December 13, 1944 ~ November 24, 2018 (age 73)

Jill Evelyn Douglas, 73, of Beaumont, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 24, 2018.  Jill was born in Beaumont, Texas to Herman Leroy and Pauline Josephine Sockwell on December 13, 1944.  Jill worked as a secretary for many years with different organizations, she finished her career with Beaumont Home Health.  Jill was awarded Secretary of the Year by the city of Beaumont.

Jill was described by her family as a striking and beautiful young lady.  She was artistic; she could paint, make jewelry, do calligraphy, and was able to make crafts by hand.  Jill liked to hunt, but she loved fishing; her favorite spot was Rollover Cut.  Her family also described her as brutally honest and straightforward, even though she was strong-willed, she also was loving and never met a stranger.  Jill was a single parent who provided everything for her daughter, Bonny, as she was growing up.  Jill was a night owl, she would go to her favorite hang outs, Sertinos, Books-a-Million, and Waffle House and hang out; this provided her with many opportunities to meet people and minister to them.  Jill loved the Lord and was a woman of strong faith.  She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont.  Jill was a living example of Proverbs 31; she was a Virtuous Woman.  One of her favorite scriptures was Jeremiah 29:11 “for I know the plans I have for you” declared the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Leroy, and Pauline Josephine Sockwell; two sisters, Joy Bond, and Rita McDaniel.

Jill is survived by her daughter, Bonny Millican; three grandsons, Steven Taylor Millican, Shelton Craig Millican, and Wyatt Bergman Millican; a brother, Ethan “Skip” Sockwell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.  The family would like to express a special thanks to Pam Knight for all the visits and care she demonstrated.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in the Chapel at Lumberton Family Funeral Home.  A Life Honoring Memorial Service will follow immediately at 3:00pm.
