James "Big Mike" Bartlett

James Michael “Big Mike” Bartlett, 75, of Lumberton, Texas passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 18, 2018.  Mike was born to James Issac and Rosemond Elizabeth Bartlett on October 14, 1943 in Pampa, Texas.  Mike graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1962.  Immediately after graduation, Mike joined the U.S. Navy where he would honorable and faithfully serve his country for the next 4 years.  Mike went to work for Gulf/Chevron after leaving the Navy; he would retire from there after 34 years of service.  Mike met, and married Helen “Lulu” Jones and they would enjoy 48 years of marriage.

Mike enjoyed camping, dancing, rebuilding old cars (hoopties according to his wife), and looking like Wilford Brimley; he often fooled people into believing he was the actor, but what he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family.  He will be missed by all his family and his sweet little puppy, Hershey.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy, and Roseland Bartlett; and an infant daughter, Amber Lee Bartlett.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Helen “Lulu” Jones Bartlett; a daughter, Michelle Srader, and husband, Aaron of Lumberton, TX; a son, Michael Bartlett Jr., of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Brock Jones, and wife, Shelby, Garrett Jones, and wife, Jacey, Lauren Sonnier, and husband, Michael, Gracey Bartlett,  Alexis Bartlett, and partner, Daigan, and Addie Claire Srader; great grandchildren, Erickson, Remmi, Paisley, Aubrie, Otto, Ozzland and Dawson.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Chapel at Lumberton Family Funeral Home.  A life-honoring Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 11:00am on Friday, December 28, 2018.
