George Bert Collins, 89, of Liberty, Texas, passed away December 6, 2017 in Beaumont, Texas.

Services will be Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas (3650 Dowlen Road, Beaumont, TX 77706) under the direction of Lumberton Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be in the sanctuary from Noon to 1:00 pm with services immediately following, with Pastor Phil Holder officiating. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Johnny Johnson, Ricky Davis, Winston Coates, Lee Hall, Shane Peoples, and Jacob Kachich. Burial will follow at 3:30 pm at Stacy Cemetery in Devers, Texas (on Woodard Drive about a half mile off Highway 90). A brunch will be provided at 11 am for family by First Baptist Church Bevil Oaks at 3350 Dowlen Road, Suite H, Beaumont, Texas 77706.

George was born to Alvis (Alvious W.) Collins and Thelma Winfre Entler Collins on February 22, 1928. He proudly served his country in the US Army. He retired from both Sun Oil Company and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He had a passion for farming and restoring John Deere tractors and vintage automobiles. He was a longtime member at First Baptist Church Bevil Oaks. George lived a life of responsibility and hard work and had a loving and generous heart, and was always providing for and giving to others.

George is preceded in death by his parents, Alvis and Thelma Collins; brother Charles Collins and sisters Laura Belle Collins and Eudora Parker.

George leaves his loving memories to be cherished by a large extended family and all that knew him. George is survived by the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Shirley Ann Blanchard Collins; daughter Faye and husband Craig Beasley of Lumberton (and their children Shane and Denye Peoples, Jennifer and Chad Ruzick, Stacey and Chad Stegall, Brad and Nicole Beasley, and Janice and Jason Pullen); daughter Cynthia and husband Bill Rehtus of Beaumont (and their children Collin Sheldon, Mike and Christy Rehtus and Stacey and Jay Sonnenberg); son George Bert Collins, Jr. of Sour Lake (and his children Crystal and Mark Goode and Dianna and Cameron Thomas); daughter Denise and husband Albert Kachich of Houston (and their children Jacob and Julia Kachich); and great grandchildren Cole and Brooke Peoples, Austin, Brennon and Cailynn Ruzick, Morgan Brackin, Kendall Hebert, Mikalah Stegall, Anthoni and Landon Beasley, Jackson, Tyler and Maddox Pullen, Charles and Caiden Goode and Odon Thomas. George is also survived by his brother Melvin Collins of Canyon Lake, sister Bertha Bohannan of San Antonio and sister Betty and husband Glenn Griffin of Fischer.
