Francis "Sonny" Cox Obituary

Mr. Francis “Sonny” Cox passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at his residence in Lumberton, Texas, at the age of 80.

Sonny was born June 18, 1937, in Port Arthur, Texas, to parents Cornelious Harris Cox and Alice Morine Ferguson Cox. He grew up in Port Acres, Texas, and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1955. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on and racing cars and was a member of the Road Phantoms Kustom Klub. Also early in life he was a rice farmer.

He married the former Nan Ellen Pickett and they soon moved to Beaumont, Texas, establishing their family. Sonny soon built a great reputation for himself in the construction industry as a homebuilder with Cox Builders.

Several years ago, they relocated to Lumberton, Texas, where they operated the Pickett Feed Store. Sonny and Nan had a great passion for crafts and antiques.  For several years they sold hand crafted wood items as “Cox’s Collectibles,” even traveling across the country making their sales. They also enjoyed their antiques through their shop at Larry’s Antique Mall.

Sonny loved trains and even had a room of his house dedicated to his train collection. He was also a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys as well as Jeff Gordon/NASCAR. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Loeb.

He is survived his two daughters, Renee Cox and Teresa Cox, both of Lumberton, Texas.

Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Nan Ellen Cox, in addition to his parents and a sister, Barbara Andrews.
