Donald Humphrey Obituary

Donald F. Humphrey

1938 – 2019

Donald F. Humphrey, age 80, of Beaumont, TX passed away on July 6, 2019. He was born on December 17, 1938 near Bienville, LA, the youngest of Fred and Josephine Humphrey’s 10 children. He retired from Texas Home Health in 2003 as Manager of State Programs. Don enjoyed time spent with family, travel, working with his hands, reading and helping others. After work, and on weekends, he volunteered in the construction and repair of the homes of many friends and family. After his retirement, he worked in maintenance for a small nursing home, which he found very fulfilling and satisfying employment. It felt like a ministry to others, through Don’s efforts to ensure the comfort, security and wellbeing of all the residents there. The staff and many residents reached Don directly on his personal cell, and he was readily accessible to them at any time.

Don and the love of his life, Judy, shared a love of books, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cherishing the memories created with their grandchildren, and travelling to many destinations, not necessarily in that order. The births of grandchildren, attending school events(academic, extra-curricular and athletic), and birthday parties were very special, rewarding times for them. Their many vacations included many visits to their favorite destination, the Great Smoky Mountains.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife, Judy Humphrey; daughters, Kimberly Vaughn and husband, Larry, of Temple, TX, Gina Dunn and husband, Chris, of Cedar Park, TX, and Mary Herrington and husband, Brian, of Conroe, TX; step-son, Jimmy Beasley and wife, Misty, of Katy, TX; step-daughters, Kelly Jones of The Woodlands, TX and Jana Watson and husband, David, of Nacogdoches, TX; brothers, Stanley Humphrey of Kountze, TX and Bill Humphrey of Scottsville, VA; sister, Lila Butler of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren that affectionately referred to him as “Paw-Paw”, Chris Scarborough, Colby Herrington, Cecelia Herrington, Benjamin Herrington, Bailey Jones, Kendall Jones, Sydney Jones, Preston Watson, Avery Watson, Reese Beasley, Bryn Beasley, Olivia Rutherfurd, and Trevor Dunn; great-grandchildren, Harper Wilkerson, Nolan Wilkerson and Paisley Beth Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation with family and friends will be on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX. Don’s life honoring memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m., also at the funeral home, with Don's nephew, Rick Morales, officiating.
