Debra Clark Obituary

Debra Lynn McFarland Simmons Clark

1959-2019

Debra Lynn Clark, age 59, passed away on February 24, 2019. She was born in Beaumont, TX on July 16, 1959 to R. C. McFarland Jr. and Joanne Skinner McFarland.

A spunky, devoted Christian, Debbie fought diabetes from the young age of 9. Not expected to make it past 35 years, she lived her whole life for the things that made her happy: her church and her family. Debbie liked to do things a certain way; she was a picky eater and, despite her diabetes, loved sweets, lunch at her parents every day and was a well known regular at Chicken Express, where she would often order a large crushed ice. Working as a teacher’s aide for many years, she had a soft spot in her heart for all children. Lovingly referred to as “Aunt Debbie” by her sister’s grandchildren, she loved them like they were her own. Legally blind for many years, she was healed in 1994 at a Benny Hinn Crusade in Houston and rarely had vision problems for many years after. Although she never had lots of money, Debbie loved to give to those she cared about, even if it was the smallest gift; she always found ways to do for those less fortunate than her. Often speaking exactly what was on her mind, her filter was broken; never ugly to anyone, she just said what she thought about things. The care and devotion that she received her entire life from her parents would rarely be seen by anyone. Though she is gone, Debbie will be missed by her family and church family, as she leaves behind many warm memories with the people she cared most about in this life.

Left to honor her memory are her parents that lovingly provided Debbie care for 59 years; son, Bernice E. Simmons, III of Beaumont, TX, sister, Susan Willis and husband, Rocky, of Beaumont, TX; niece, Andrea Maher and husband, Mark, of Sour Lake; nephew, Brandon Willis and wife, Ashley, of Beaumont, TX; and five grand-nieces and nephews.

Debra is preceded in death by her brother, David Kent McFarland, grandparents and her pet Chihuahua of 16 years, “Taffy”.
