David Luquette Obituary

David Lee Luquette

1930 - 2019

David Lee Luquette, age 89, left this life on February 27, 2019. He was born in Beaumont, TX on February 1, 1930 to Victor Luquette and Jewel Laird Luquette.

An amazing man, David lived a very full life. Born at Hotel Dieu Hospital weighing only 2.5 lbs, David grew to be an incredibly strong person that could tackle just about anything he wanted to do. He was tough, and had a sturdy exterior, but underneath that exterior was an unshakably tender and giving heart. David was a proud, childhood friend of George Jones and would often tell stories of their youth together and riding their bikes together to school. His grandmother that only spoke French helped to raise him, and he became a proficient French speaker for most of his life. A lifelong mechanic, David could fix just about anything; talented and determined, he always mastered, and could tackle, anything that he wanted to do. With his first wife, Katherine, he raised 6 children that he cared for deeply; he faithfully provided for his family and poured his love into his relationship with them. As the owner of Independent Wrecker Service, he successfully ran it for over 22 years, giving away an untold number of free tows to people in need. He was a man of many hobbies and interests; though his favorite was always fishing, David was an avid collector, very active in the local and worldwide HAM radio organizations and a fervent metal detector that was involved in local metal detecting groups. After losing his first wife to cancer in 1990, David married his close friend of many years, Mavis, on Valentine’s Day of 1994 and devotedly spent the next 25 years of their love story together. David was loved by many; always having a lot of friends, he was steadfast and dedicated to his friendships, both in his business and personal life. He truly lived his 89 years on this Earth to the fullest and leaves behind many fond, special memories with those that he loved so deeply.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 25 years, Mavis Luquette; sons, Jay Luquette and partner, Kathy, of Manvel, TX, Tommy Luquette and wife, Vickie, of Buna, TX, Doug Luquette and wife, Loretta, of Austin, TX and Keith Luquette and wife, Cynthia, of Beaumont, TX; daughter, Kathy Breaux and husband, Randy, of Lumberton, TX; brother, Kenneth Luquette and wife, Anita, of Bevil Oaks, TX; sister, Jane Johnson of Beaumont, TX; daughter-in-law, Cindy Luquette of Beaumont, TX; step-children, Robert Franklin of Lumberton, TX, Mark Franklin and wife, Donna, of Lumberton, TX and Julie Walker and husband, John, of Lumberton, TX; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous friends, extended family and loved ones.

David is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Katherine; son, David Earl Luquette; grandson, Jordan Walker; sister, Beverly Lontz; and brother, Edmund Luquette.
