Corey Wilson Obituary

Corey Lane Wilson

1997 - 2019

Corey Lane Wilson, age 21, passed away on February 28, 2019. He was born in Beaumont, TX on July 22, 1997 to Thomas Kevin Wilson and Melissa Portwine Wilson.

Exceptional and caring, Corey was a good person with a special heart. He was loved by all that met him, possessing a magnetic quality and engaging spirit that made people fall in love with him and gravitate to him in an extraordinary way. A hard worker, he was proud of his family and his relationship with them: writing a research paper in school about how much he looked up to his dad; always making time to play with his sisters in his youth, even the occasional dress up game; stopping by his grandparent’s house just to visit and check on them. Corey was someone that you could count on; he always wanted to help people, often looking for opportunities to serve and make time for others in even the smallest of ways. A man of many hobbies, he would take up something with all his heart and energy: hockey, golf, airsoft and paintball, but fishing and hunting were always his favorites. Collecting sentimental things was very important to him, and he accumulated various 90s memorabilia, gaming systems and even saved ticket stubs from movies and shows that he attended with others. From his first show during a family trip to Branson at age 5, Corey developed a personal relationship with magician Kirby VanBurch that grew over many years. He played on the golf team while attending Vidor High School, and for many years as an employee of Market Basket, he showed his warm heart in service to shoppers, particularly the ones he knew. A devoted fan, he loved to see his favorite bands in concert, especially Ventruss, and attend Astros games with family, being obsessed with the Astros mascot Orbit. Corey’s unique, loving and special character was one of a kind, and the impression that he left on those he leaves behind will be forever be cherished.

Left to honor his memory is his loving parents; sisters, Ashley McClelland and husband, Jarrad, of Vidor, TX and Brittany Wilson of Vidor, TX; brother, Dusty Wilson of Vidor, TX; nephews, Carson Harvey and Maverick McClelland; grandparents, Robert and Nelda Peacock; uncles, Gene Wilson and wife, Debbie, of Vidor, TX, Darrell Wilson and wife, Vickie, of Lumberton, TX and Dwayne Wilson and wife, Tonya, of Vidor, TX; and numerous cousins, extended family and friends that all loved him dearly.

Corey is preceded in death by grandparents, Troy Gene Wilson Sr, Donald Irvine Portwine and Linda Lou Peterson-Portwine; and uncle, Kyle Wilson.

Visitation with family and friends will be 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the Turning Point Church, 3600 N Main St, Vidor, TX 77662. Corey’s life honoring service will follow at 3:00 p.m., also at the church, with Pastor George Gau officiating.
