Cody Parsley Obituary

Cody “N5MIY” Parsley

1933 – 2018

Cody Parsley, age 85, of Sour Lake, TX, passed away on November 12, 2018. He was born to James Jackson Parsley and Mahalia Sue Drake Parsley on January 20, 1933 in Silsbee, TX.

Cody was a thorough, but fun-loving man. Everything he built, he thought it had to be perfect. This was never truer for him than his love-story with his wife, Nancy. Their first date was on her 40th birthday, and they went square dancing. He met her at the car with a musical piano box that played “We’ve Only Just Begun” and that night their life together did. Cody was her corner at the dance but would be her Rock for the rest of his life. While they dated, he would always bring Nancy’s daughter, Melissa, a gift, saying to Nancy “I have to win her heart as well as yours.” On August 13th, 1983 they married, and every month of their marriage, on the 13th of the month, he would give Nancy a silk rose. Cody loved to have a good time, enjoying family gatherings and eating. After attending Kilgore Junior College for a certification in watch repair, he worked for 37 years at Burkette’s Jewelry in Port Neches, TX. He would wait another 3 years before Nancy’s retirement, always finishing his “honey-do” lists and having supper ready every night when she got home. After her retirement, they hit the road for 10 years, travelling to many places and creating many special memories. For over 50 years, he was a proud and accomplished member of the Freemasons. Known for his green thumb, he planted numerous fruit trees on their property. As a HAM radio operator with the call-sign “N5MIY”, he met with a group on the 39-10 channel every morning at 8:00 for 45 years. Cody left his mark on many lives and his memory will live on with them. In his special way of saying goodbye to his friends and loved ones, “May the good Lord take a likin’ to you. N5MIY signing off.”

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 35 years, Nancy Parsley; daughters, Diane Boyd of Poplar Bluff, MO and Melissa Ellison and spouse, Janice May, of Sour Lake, TX; son, Wayne Parsley and wife, Nancy, of Tishamingo, OK; grandchildren, Amanda Gowen and husband, Travis, of Poplar Bluff, MO, Allen Hoy and wife, Gabby, of Clear Lake, TX, Brandi Fuller and husband, Thomas, of Sour Lake, TX and Dallas Boyd of Poplar Bluff, MO; great-grandchildren, Ireland Gowan, Rowan Gowan, Micaella Hoy, Elias Hoy, Kaily Thomas, Gabe Wright and Thomas Fuller III.

Preceding Cody in death were his parents; first wife, Johnny Parsley; and 10 siblings.
