Charles Elwood Taggart

Charles Elwood Taggart was born on December 23, 1932 in Little Rock, AK, to George Elwood Taggart and Sallie (Wilson) Taggart. He passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020. 

Charles could have been described as a simple man. He loved the things he had a true passion for, such as his family, in particular his late wife, and he enjoyed the simpler pleasures in life. Charles retired in 1993 from Texaco Chemical (formerly known as Jefferson Chemical and presently known as Huntsman) after 35 years of service to travel extensively with his beloved wife, LaVerne. Charles loved to support his sons in activities and hobbies as they grew up, even to the point of coaching little league at one time. When not cheering on his boys, Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting and in general being outside- a true outdoors man. But of all the accomplishments in life that you might hear Charles talk about- most likely it would be the Lumberton Volunteer Fire Dept.  Charles was not only one of the founding members but would serve as one of the first Fire Chiefs as well. Combine his love of family with his dedication to serving his community in such a meaningful way and it becomes clear that Charles will be deeply missed and not soon forgotten.

Left to honor Charles’ memory is his son, Stephen Taggert and wife Mary of Pleasure Island, TX; his son, David Taggart and wife Sandy of Bullard, TX; grandson, Keenan Taggart and wife Nicole; granddaughter, Amanda Long, and husband Logan; grandson Charlie Taggart; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Taggart, Clara Long, Mason Taggart, Scarlett Long, and of course, Charles’ adored dog, Queenie.

Charles will be joining his father, George Elwood Taggart; mother, Sallie (Wilson) Taggart; and of course, his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Laverne (Willis) Taggart in Heaven.

To honor Charles’ life, the family will have a Visitation on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX 77657. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11 AM at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX 77657.
