Cathy Barrett Obituary

Cathy Bedair Barrett, age 69, passed from this life on April 8, 2019. She was born on July 11, 1949 to Leroy Bedair and Winnie Pearl Martin Bedair.

Precious and sweet, she had a big personality with a delightfully contagious laugh that came from deep within. Cathy and her laugh were the best audience, and her thoughtful attention to detail made everyone feel special. In 1988, a friend from work, Martha, introduced Cathy to a young gentleman from Martha’s church, named Mark. She was interested, and he was interested enough to call and invite her to his church’s Christmas banquet, afterwards telling her to “Bedair”, wittingly in reference to her maiden name. That phone call was the first time he heard her beautiful laugh, and the initial spark of a 30-year love story that brought together two great characters. Marrying on March 24, 1990, Cathy never missed a day without hearing how much Mark loved her; they never took each other, or their love, for granted. Their unconditional, inseparable bond left no regrets over unsaid things and unexpressed feelings. Working together on their marriage, it grew sweeter and they loved deeper each day. The love of each other’s lives, there was never a doubt that she loved and adored Mark. To Cathy, faith and family came first; she prayed with her family daily and was a faithful Christian. Through her prayers, Mark’s life was saved. One unforgettable morning, from the time he left for work, she felt an overwhelming need to pray constantly until she spoke with him; calling him at work, a shaken Mark told her about narrowly avoiding a terrible wreck, with both knowing it was due to her prayers. She was as a great cook, with many famous dishes around the holidays with family. An avid reader, she loved reading a good mystery novel; old movies and classic films were her favorite, especially “Fried Green Tomotoes.” It is no mystery where Cathy passed to as she took her final breaths on this Earth, her legacy of faithfulness and love will be remembered in the hearts of all those touched by her precious spirit, especially her love, Mark, who will “Bedair” with her someday and see her again.

Left to honor her memory is her loving husband of 29 years, Mark Barrett; son, Jonathan David Barrett of Beaumont, TX; brothers, Boyd Bedair and wife, Linda, of Port Neches, TX and Randall Bedair and wife, Melba, of Nederland, TX; sister, Barbara Page and wife, Don, of Sulphur, LA; in-laws, Chris Barrett of Plano, TX and Cathy Richmond and husband, John, of Beaumont, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patsy Bennett; and brother-in-law, Don Bennett.
