Bernice M. Steinbarth, affectionately known to many as “Boots” and “Grammy,” a beloved wife, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018, at the age of 81. She was born on June 26, 1936 in Buffalo, New York to Norman D. and Gertrude G. Breissinger.
Bernice met the love of her life, William A. Steinbarth, in middle school and married him on April 24, 1954. Bernice and Bill, who preceded her in death, had five children together: Marlene Pajak of Lumberton, Texas; William D. Steinbarth, who also preceded her in death; Mark Steinbarth and Douglas Steinbarth, both of Buffalo, New York; and, Timothy Steinbarth of Quimby, Iowa.
In the 1960s, Bernice and Bill moved to San Diego, California before returning to Buffalo, New York and then finally settling in Beaumont, Texas in the 1980s. After Bill passed away, Bernice spent her time between Buffalo, New York and Lumberton, Texas. Throughout her life, she devoted herself to various crafts, ceramics, bingo, crocheting, decorating for holidays, beating everyone at Chinese checkers, and shopping at Wal-Mart. Bernice absolutely loved decorating for every holiday and even had multiple Christmas trees and color schemes to choose from. She was thoughtful and considerate – never forgetting to send birthday and holiday cards to brighten someone’s special day. She is loved immensely and will be truly missed.
Bernice is survived by two brothers, four children, sixteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren. And, yes, that’s a lot of birthday cards.
